Plans & Funding

Forecasts, plans and applications that stand up to lenders, grant panels and investors. From new business start-up to specialist funding routes.

Documents that get read.

Funding applications and business plans are won and lost on whether the figures are credible. Most aren’t. They use round numbers, assume best-case conversion, ignore VAT and tax timing, and treat overheads as fixed when they are clearly not.

Lenders, grant panels and investors see hundreds of these documents. They spot the gaps in minutes. Once trust in the figures is gone, the rest of the application barely gets read.

This service produces the documents that survive that scrutiny, business plans, cash flow models, sales forecasts, funding applications and the supporting work behind them. The bar is whether a lender will pick up the phone and ask for a meeting, or close the file.

When this service earns its keep.

If any of these describe where you are, this is the right service to look at first.

+

You are starting a new business and need a plan that works as a working document, not a vanity project.

+

You are applying for commercial finance and want the application to stand up to scrutiny.

+

You are exploring grant funding but unsure what you qualify for or how to apply.

+

You are forming a Community Interest Company and need the formation paperwork done right.

+

A funder has asked for cash flow projections and you don’t have anything credible to send.

+

You have applied for funding before and been turned down without a clear reason.

+

You are making a major decision, a hire, a contract, an investment, and want the cash flow modelled first.

+

Your existing plan was written three years ago and no longer matches the business.

The five workstreams.

Each one stands alone, you can use any combination depending on what you need.

01

Business start-up support

For new ventures: the business plan and cash flow forecast that the rest of the business gets built on. Written to be useful internally and credible externally.

  • Business plan structured around the actual decisions ahead
  • Three-year cash flow forecast with monthly granularity
  • Sales forecast tied to a realistic pipeline
  • Cost base mapped to the operating model
  • Sensitivity analysis, what if revenue lands at 70%?
02

Cash flow & sales forecasts

Forecast models built to be used, not just submitted. The kind of document lenders take seriously because every number can be defended.

  • Monthly cash flow models, 12 to 36 months
  • Assumptions documented and visible
  • Base, stretch and downside scenarios
  • Working capital and seasonality built in
  • VAT, tax and headroom modelled properly
03

Commercial funding research, sourcing & compliance

Finding the right funder for your situation and putting together an application the funder will actually want to read.

  • Funding landscape research for your sector
  • Lender or investor shortlist and introductions
  • Application drafting and supporting documents
  • Due diligence preparation
  • Compliance support through the application process
04

Grant funding research & application writing

Grants are competitive and the application format varies wildly. We work out which ones you qualify for and write the bid in the way each panel wants to read it.

  • Grant landscape research for your sector and region
  • Eligibility screening before any work goes in
  • Application writing in the panel’s preferred format
  • Supporting financial documents
  • Project budget and outputs framework
05

Community Interest Company formation

Advice and formation for CICs, including the asset lock, the community benefit statement, and the document creation and online submission to Companies House and the CIC Regulator.

  • CIC suitability discussion, whether a CIC is right at all
  • Article and memorandum drafting
  • Community Interest Statement (CIC36) preparation
  • Online submission support, end-to-end
  • First-year reporting briefing

From scope to submission.

The shape of the work depends on which workstream you need. The high-level pattern looks like this.

01

Initial conversation

Free, no obligation. We work out what you actually need, whether we are the right people, and what a sensible scope looks like.

45 minutes · free
02

Scope & fee

Workstream confirmed, deliverables agreed, fee fixed in writing. No drift, no surprises.

2–3 working days
03

Research & modelling

The bulk of the work. For funding routes, this includes researching the right funder or grant. For plans and forecasts, it is the modelling itself.

Variable by scope
04

Draft & review

First draft delivered for your review. We work through it together, refine, and tighten. Iteration is built into the fee, this isn’t a one-shot deliverable.

1–2 weeks
05

Final document

Polished, signed off, and in the format the receiving party wants. For grant applications, that means matching the panel’s template exactly. For CICs, the right Companies House filings.

On completion
06

Submission support

We stay involved through submission, including follow-up questions from lenders, panels or Companies House. Included as standard.

Through to decision
“

No finance-speak. Plain English, always.

One thing runs through every service: we explain it in language that does not need a glossary. Technical jargon gets translated as a matter of course, so you actually understand what you are signing off, what the figures mean, and what to do next. That promise is built into the price.

The documents themselves.

Outputs vary by workstream, but everything is produced to a standard you can submit, defend in conversation, and use as a working document later.

You own the documents and the underlying workings. No black-box spreadsheets you cannot edit.

The things people ask.

If yours is not here, raise it in the first conversation.

How long do funding applications take to put together?

Commercial funding applications typically run two to four weeks from scope to submission. Grant applications can take longer, some panels have very specific formats and ask for two to three rounds of supporting documents.

Decision times after submission are out of our hands but we know roughly what to expect for each route.

Do you guarantee funding will come through?

No, and any adviser who tells you they can is overpromising. What we guarantee is a credible application, presented properly, to the right funder. The actual decision sits with the lender or panel.

That said, the difference between a credible application and a weak one is significant, our hit rate is good for that reason.

What’s the difference between commercial and grant funding?

Commercial funding is paid back: bank loans, asset finance, invoice finance, commercial mortgages, private investment. The application focuses on serviceability and risk.

Grant funding is not paid back, but tends to come with strict conditions: how the money is spent, what outputs are reported, often a community or innovation angle. The application focuses on alignment with the grant’s purpose.

Many businesses use both. We can advise on which routes make sense for your situation.

Can you help with a CIC if I haven’t formed it yet?

Yes, the first conversation is about whether a CIC is actually the right structure at all. Many businesses that ask about CICs would be better as a regular limited company or a charity, and vice versa. We start there.

If a CIC is the right move, we handle the formation end-to-end: articles, the Community Interest Statement (CIC36), and the Companies House submission.

Do you help with the ongoing reporting after a grant is awarded?

If you want us to, yes. Many grants have ongoing reporting requirements, quarterly returns, output milestones, financial accountability. We can either set you up to handle it internally or stay involved as part of a Virtual CFO arrangement.

What if I’ve been turned down before?

Bring the previous application. The first job is working out why it didn’t land, sometimes it’s the figures, sometimes the narrative, sometimes the wrong funder entirely. That diagnosis usually shapes the next application.
